fired from work
Ok, i am rather upset. I started working my first salon as an assistant, but i had no idea that most of the time i would be cleaning. Things started well, i was blow drying, shampooing, and doing other things along with cleaning the salon every hour. Dress code i tried my best to blend in but since i have no sense of fashion at the moment i failed at that one. I was told by a co worker that the owners were complaining about how i dress, that i should dress more like a high end salon and less urban. This is something they don't cover in school or when your on the sir. floor. So apparently there was a review done and i was voted off. I wasn't given a reason other than that i didn't meet their expectations. The one thing i wanted to do was learn, and i didn't feel that with all the cleaning i was doing i wasn't getting that. SO now i feel like a total failure but than again, i was never ment to be an assistant. oh well.

For your next assistant position get your self a little note pad and as your cleaning make sure you write down things you see stylist in the salon are doing that you want to learn more about and then when you both have a free moment sit down and talk about it!
Keep your head up, your doing great!
I am a salon owner and a stylist for 20 years and I will give you One piece of valuable advice...If you want to be an amazing stylist.......you first must be an amazing assistant. You will receive what you earn and nothing more. Any owner you work for will respect your hard work and commitment to their salon, the biz, and yourself.
So try your best to dress appropriately and unfortunately cleaning the salon is a main part of your job as an assistant. (and anyone who will tell you otherwise knows nothing about this business)
As you begin to stand out because you will be doing your job with a pleasant attitude, you will progress. First with blowouts and color applications, to simple haircuts on walk ins.
I wish you the best of luck in the biz!
If you truly love it...it can be the best career you could ever wish for! Work Hard!!!!!!!!!!!!

How can you possibly be discouraged? You're not even out of school yet, and you've already landed (and lost) your first job.
You are light years ahead of your peers. Most of them won't be fortunate enough to have a job until much closer to - or after - graduation. Don't get obsessed over every stumbling block that you come across. You'll encounter lots of these in your career (a bad day, a difficult client, a tough boss, etc.) - the important thing is making sure that you stay focused on forward motion, instead of banging your head against the wall every time you face a challenge.
So you've found a job that isn't perfect for you. Good for you! At least you know that you're one step closer to finding the position that IS perfect for you. If your bosses decided to send you packing, you should appreciate the fact that they didn't hold you back any longer.
You're not training to be an assistant, are you???
On to bigger and better things.
